The Quality of your finished tattoo will be affected by the aftercare regime you adhere to during the healing process. The skin following a tattoo has been damaged leaving you with an abrasion. On the skin the bacteria staphylococci live quite harmlessly and are a normal part of life. However, once the skin is broken there is a potential for the skin to become susceptible to these bacteria. Your tattoo will heal normal without any problems if you follow these general guidelines:

1. After 1-2 hours remove the dressing/cling film that the tattoo artist put on and gently bathe with hot soapy water. Make sure to remove any blood or plasma residue. Make sure you dab it rather than rub it. Then pat dry with paper towels.

2. Apply aftercare product 3 times a day until the tattoo is healed. (Usually 7-10 days.) Some tattoo artist have specific aftercare products. If not you could use “Bepanthen” or “Savlon” advanced healing gel from your local pharmacy.

3. Avoid cross contamination. Make sure you do not share your aftercare product.

4. Avoid chlorine water/direct sunlight/sunbeds for 10 days.
